Iliad and Odyssey
The story of Iliad and Odyssey is written by Homer. Both are epic poems where gods and goddesses are involved.
The Iliad tells the story of the Trojan War, a war that may or may not have actually happened to Menelaus and Paris being in love with the same girl, Helen. As the story goes, it was out of this love triangle that the fierce battle between the Greeks and the Trojans was born. Also in Iliad, there are two most famous parts: The Trojan Horse and the death of Achilles. While the story of Odyssey tells the story of Penelope, Odysseus’ wife, who stands by her man despite having a roomful of suitors who insist he has died at sea. But the focus of the story is the heroic journey of Odysseus.
The differences of Iliad and Odyssey:
- Iliad is more about war and Odyssey is more about Odysseus adventures.
- In Iliad, Odysseus is not quite showed while in Odyssey, Odysseus is the main character.
Iliad and Odyssey also have their similarity. Both epics mention suffering and death of companions. In Iliad, men should fight to win the war between Greek and Trojans. Also in Odyssey, Odysseus and his men should be brave in all their challenges to return in their place.
Both epics also show their heroism and bravery on facing all challenges in life.
Iliad and Odyssey’s similarities and differences are meaningful because it contains moral values that we can compare in reality. It says that we should learn how to fight to win.
